Pathways to Care

Community Days

Community Days are non-program days when volunteers come to the farm to help with tasks such as digging, moving soil, planting, assembling, and harvesting.

Community Days

These days help prepare the garden at the start of the season, support it through the summer, and put it to bed for winter.

Garden Helpers

Green Care Farms has also used the language `Garden Helper` to describe a semi-regular volunteer role focused on shorter gardening support sessions.

Volunteer rhythm

The volunteer rhythm follows the natural pace of the farm: spring preparation, in-season support, fall close-down, and a Harvest Dinner or similar thank-you gathering for volunteers and community supporters.

The volunteer rhythm

1

Spring preparation

Community Days often begin with digging, moving soil, planting, and helping prepare the Sensory Garden for the season.

2

In-season support

Volunteer support continues through the summer with garden maintenance, planting, assembling, harvesting, and practical help as needed.

3

Fall close-down

The season closes with harvest support, putting the garden to bed for winter, and often a Harvest Dinner or similar thank-you gathering.
