The Sensory Garden

The Sensory Garden is both productive and restorative. Members help design, plant, tend, harvest, and enjoy a space built for participation, sensory experience, reflection, and connection to the seasons as part of Green Care Farms' outdoor dementia program.

Located at Andrews Farm in Milton

A productive and restorative space

The garden supports horticultural activity, observation, routine, and meaningful contribution. It is a place to engage, to rest, and to enjoy the shared work of growing together.

Meredith Wilson, Landscape Architecture Student

"The design aims to bridge the gap between human frailty and nature's resilience, creating a space where everyone is capable and everyone is seen."

What happens to what is grown?

Members receive a share when produce, fruit, flowers, or herbs are ready. Excess produce is donated to Food for Life.

Design contributions

The original site highlighted design contributions by Meredith Wilson, a landscape architecture student whose work helped shape the way Green Care Farms imagined and shared the garden.

Participation

We believe in doing. Guests are encouraged to touch, smell, and even taste the bounty of the garden under guidance, fostering a sense of accomplishment.

Reflection

The garden supports observation, routine, and meaningful contribution in ways that make space for rest and reflection as well as activity.

Connection

By witnessing the lifecycle of a plant from seed to harvest, our visitors reconnect with the fundamental rhythms of life and their own resilience.
